Rocking the Foundations of the Inability of Women to do Sciences

CKS A-Level Students at Women in Energy Workshop

Engineering is getting an idea and making it tangible. Women in energy have made this statement a reality more than a myth. Through out history, women have always been regarded as a weaker gender when it came to the matters concerning sciences and technology. This wasn’t a case in only Uganda but a world wide problem that had to be curbed as early as it was identified. Many various women stood up to the cause and today many of us are able to enjoy the fruits of their hard work. Women such as Engineer Winnie Byanyima, Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng the head of the Ministry of Health and many more have reached the end of the line for this belief and inspired many young ladies in the country.

The women in Energy organization together with the Electricity Regulatory Authority headed by Engineer Ziiria Tibalwa Waako organized an outreach programme to motivate, guide and inspire young ladies to join the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) world. All this transpired on the 19th of March 2025 at Blessed Sacrament Kimaanya under the theme “Inspiring the Young Female Generation.”

At around 9:00am in the morning, the session kicked off with a lively Master of Ceremonies who goes by Lawrence. At around a half past the above mentioned time, the Guest of Honor, Ambassador Joan arrived and was welcomed with lively music. Anthems and the prayer followed and officially the ball was set rolling by Engineer Rachael Arinda. She explained the roles of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) aims of the programme and the reasons as to why one should opt for STEM especially the damsels who were present. After offloading her package, she was able to welcome Her Excellence Lawyer Joan the Ambassador, an advocate of the courts of law in Uganda and a lady who encouraged us to always aim at self development and growth so as to add value to ourselves, the people around us and our country as well. She further more emphasized self love and self esteem without forgetting to tell us that God is the source of everything.

No sooner had her communication came to an end, than she filled the whole room with a lively ‘Vibe’ that involved majority shaking their bones. She is a lady that showed us that the sky shouldn’t even be the limit because with her old age, she still feels that she can still continue to self development by adding more books to what she already knows.

Engineer Diana Nakabugo came in after a session where many girls had showed off their talents of creativity mixed with angelic voices. She advised us to allow ourselves to sprout and thrive in everything and to know that the world out there isn’t looking for grades alone but co-curricular activities are essential as well.

An interactive session took place where many girls asked questions on carrier decision making as refreshments were being provided. The best answers were provided because lets face it that could have provided better advice than those that had gone through the process and excelled in it. As many good things come to an end, the ceremony had to be adjourned.
